Шымкент – Қазақстандағы тарихы терең қалалардың бірі. Тарихшылардың зерттеуі бойынша, шаһардың негізі қаланғанына екі мың жылдан асқан. Бұл қала маңындағы қазба жұмыстары кезінде табылған тарихи жәдігерлер негізінде дәлелденген. Қазіргі кезде осы жәдігерлер мұражайда сақталып, қала тұрғындары мен қонақтарының тамашалайтын көрнекті жеріне айналған.
